Three Little Whacks
- You may be surprised to discover the heights you can reach by just staying on the level.
- It seems there was a young woodpecker that was given training on how to properly go about drilling holes in trees. As a new graduate, the woodpecker was given his first assignment and his instructors pointed him to an appropriate tree.
- With extreme confidence, the cocky young woodpecker stretched his wings and flew to the assignment. Grabbing hold of the bark with his sturdy feet, he threw back his head and took his first whack. A chip of bark flew from the tree and the yes of the woodpecker sparkled with pride. This was great! He was doing a first-class job! Let's do it again -- so he threw back his head and took an even bigger whack and an even larger piece of wood flew from the tree. A third try and just as he did so, lightning struck, splintering the trunk into fragments and sending the woodpecker tumbling to the ground!
- Dazed but not hurt, he looked up at the splintered tree and said incredulously, "Wow! To think I did that with only three little whacks!"
- No doubt, the difficult situations in our lives will not all be solved with "three little whacks" that we apply, but when we are really in tune with God and His will for us, He does intervene in our lives. Only He can know what great things we can accomplish with Him!
